Allyson McMahan Allyson McMahan has been part of the 4-H youth development program for more than 17 years. As a member of National 4-H Council’s marketing communications team in Chevy Chase, Md., Allyson works on promoting the 4-H brand, assisting state and county 4-H offices and volunteers with their marketing needs, and organizes efforts around National 4-H Week. Allyson grew up in 4-H in Cumberland County, N.J. At eight years old, her parents decided to begin a 4-H club for Allyson and her sister, Myriah. Their small family club focused on everything from marine science to conservation. As her older sister moved on to college, Allyson found a place in the county and state-level teen clubs where she improved her public speaking, leadership, and community service project areas. In 1997, Allyson joined her county 4-H agent on a national advertising campaign to promote 4-H. That campaign answered the question of what to do with her life. As a 1999 graduate of Millville Senior High School in Millville, N.J., Allyson attended The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. where she majored in marketing and government. After graduation in 2003, Allyson served a year in AmeriCorps on the west coast before joining National 4-H Council. She feels lucky to have found her passion at a young age and hopes to continue marketing for the organization that taught her the skills she will use for many years to come.
