4-H Challenge 2009: Walk N.J. Point-to-Point

[Get Moving Get Healthy New Jersey] It's time for the 4-H Challenge 2009: Walk N.J. Point-to-Point! As many of you know, the fourth H in 4-H is health. For over 100 years, the 4-H program has been dedicated to helping youth live healthier lives. That's why we have created this virtual walking program challenge so youth across the state of New Jersey can virtually walk the 214 miles from High Point to Cape May Point.

How it works:

This program is an 8-week challenge to encourage youth, leaders, and families to be more active in their daily lives. Groups who register for the program are asked to track their progress for an 8-week period. This can be done on paper or online. At the end of each week, all members of your team will report their steps/miles to the team captain. At the end of the 8 weeks, your captain will send your team's steps/miles to the coordinator. The 8 weeks can be any time between March 1 and May 31.

There will be a statewide Recognition Event in June.

What you need:

All you need to do is register your team by March 31. The first 300 people registered will receive pedometers. Team members can print out a walking log, keep track of walking on an Excel tracking sheet, or sign-up online and see how far they have traveled on a map of New Jersey.

Prizes:

Any individual who completes the 214 mile Point-to-Point walk will receive a Challenge T-shirt. The top team in each county will receive a prize, as well as the top team in the state. Team prizes will be based on the average number of miles per team member. Awards will be handed out at a state-wide event in June.

We hope your club will be a part of this exciting new program!
